Gateway Wheelers is a relatively small organisation and thanks to funding from the Northern Rock Foundation in 2006 and a sucessful bid to the Big Lottery Fund's Reaching Communities programme in 2009, we have been able to employ a Development Officer to expand our good work. Gateway Wheelers is managed by a board of Trustees made up of club members, carers and volunteers and now has a membership of over 140 people.
How can you get involved?
Attend one of our rides.
We are always on hand to welcome new members and their families ensuring you are properly kitted out to try some of our bikes. We will endeavour to find the most suitable bike for you so that you can enjoy the experience of cycling in a safe environment. If you enjoy the experience become a member and spread the word. Visit our Membership page for more information.
We are always looking for new volunteers to help out at rides or some of the events we attend. There are many roles available including one off corporate opportunities for team building or skill sharing. Volunteering can be an incredibly rewarding experience and can make a real difference to the quality of life of our members.
If you would like to volunteer with us please contact our Development Officer for a chat.
Please consider us if you decide to raise funds by being sponsored to complete a challenge you've set youself. Many of our members have participated in the Durham Big Ride as Team Gateway Wheelers, raising funds through sponsorship. If you wish to join the Team for one of the 4 distances available you will be welcomed with open arms. The distances are a 2 mile "Little Ride", a 10 mile "Middle Ride", a 25 mile "Big Ride" and "The Beast", a 50 mile challenge. Durham Big Ride is usually held in September so keep checking back for further details!
